COVID-19: CEMEX Europe making hand sanitiser
Company joins fight against coronavirus pandemic to help employees, communities and hospitals
IN a bid to assist local communities and hospitals and protect their own employees during the COVID-19 crisis, CEMEX Europe are now producing hand sanitiser in Germany, in accordance with World Health Organization (WHO) specifications.
Hand sanitisers in the form of gel or liquid are particularly effective and one of the major weapons in the current battle against coronavirus, but commercial products have become increasingly scarce.
‘We decided to investigate whether we have the resources and know-how to produce sanitisers in house, and fortunately we do,’ said Dietmar Vötsch, CEMEX Europe’s director of mortars and admixtures.
The CEMEX admixtures plant in Germany, which usually produces air-entraining agents, water reducers, concrete retarders, accelerators and superplasticizers, is currently producing a six-month supply of hand sanitiser to cover the needs of all CEMEX employees in Europe.
Thereafter, the company plans to donate sanitiser to local communities and hospitals and make it available to other customers on a cost basis only。 The first delivery of sanitiser, which is supplied from the German plant in 5-litre containers together with a user manual and safety instructions, arrived in the UK last week。

‘CEMEX Europe’s cross-divisional Rapid Response Team is working in close co-ordination with the company’s headquarters in Mexico as well as colleagues on several continents to share our findings so that they can be leveraged by our international colleagues as quickly as possible。 We hope that our efforts will help keep our employees and our external stakeholders safe。’
